About Jenny Maher

Jenny Maher Though I had always loved drawing, after becoming a quadriplegic in 2006, losing the use of my hands. I thought I’d never be able to draw again. I was able to adapt enough to write by sticking a pen in my clenched fist. In 2015, almost 10 years later I tried painting the same way. Having never painted before I decided to try acrylics, and though it took a long time, as it’s a very slow process. Having to use mostly my arms they get tired quickly, a single painting, though somewhat basic takes months to finish and countless hours, as I’m quite the perfectionist. Most of the abstract are my visions the majority come to me after praying to God. I feel God saved me for a reason, as my paralysis was due to a suicide attempt. He not only gave me the gift to paint, by sharing His glory with others in the messages behind the paintings. God also gave me the strength emotionally to write "Finding faith in Darkness." That I wrote so others who are struggling, will realize they’re not alone. Be it abuse, mental illness, medical or family struggles I’ve been there. I hope to inspire others not only through my paintings, by what I’ve overcome. To realize there is HOPE. Just recently, April 2018 I suffered from a stroke loosing strength on my left side, and a brain injury from the infection and low oxygen to my brain. It's been a slow recovery being paralyzed already. I'm still doing therapy, though the hardest has been the effect on my brain causing memory problems and understanding basic things people say. I've had to hold off painting as I had gotten so stiff lying in bed and depressed I didn't have the inspiration I had. I had already started a painting before April, but I couldn't feel it, at least not until a co-owner at a place I do therapy was interested in purchasing one off my paintings I had spoken to my therapist about. She told me about FAA and though it took a lot to post it gave me the desire to finish the painting I had put off for so long. I just finished it October 12, 2018 "Abstract Moon Watching." What I never knew about brain injuries and could of never understood is how it affects a person emotionally. Some of the little things that wouldn't have bothered me before easily brings tears to my eyes, though I've found through painting I can be in my own world, away from the worries in life. I try using bright colors in my paintings to go with any decor, with a of meaning behind most that draws your eyes to it. My art work would be suitable in children's rooms, teen space, offices, or any home. The photographs have not been doctored, all are my original works not to be copied without my permission.
